In 1710, Irish writer Jonathan Swift wrote, “… if a Lie be believ’d only for an Hour, it has done its Work, and there is no farther occasion for it.”
In 2026, the truth of that statement still resounds. We live in a culture where every story has a counter story, and every theory has a conspiracy theory. They may not both be true, but at least one of those versions is a lie. And the lie doesn’t have to be believed forever. Just long enough. Just long enough to shape an opinion, shift a perspective, or stir a reaction.
When Jesus was on trial before Pilate, he responded to the charges against him by stating, In John 18:37. . . I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
In response, Pontius Pilate asked, “What is Truth?” Two thousand years later, that is still the question. What is truth?
Jesus told His followers two things: first, that He is the way, the truth, and the life. And second, that if they held to His teaching, if they lived in that truth, then that truth would set them free.
Have a great week, and remember: to see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
