Over forty years ago, I spent six months selling Toyotas.  I didn’t really consider it selling cars, more a service to humanity.  But then again, I am a bit of a Toyota fan.

My sales manager was Wayne Cormier, and he had a way with a phrase.  I’m not sure they were original, but for 25-year-old me they were memorable.  “Luck is what failures call success”. “The only thing you get from jumping to conclusions are sore feet”. “It what’s inspected, not what’s expected, that gets done.” And “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

I’m sure there were many more, but those were the ones that have stuck with me. For better or for worse. Through the years, I’ve been tempted to write a message entitled “The Wisdom of Wayne”, but I resisted for better or worse.  But if you’ve been around Cornerstone long enough, I’m sure you’ve heard some Wayneisms.

And while Wayne’s words may have had an impact on my life, it has been the words of Jesus that have impacted my eternal life,

Ultimately, I have to echo the words Simon Peter spoke to Jesus in John 6:68 when he said, “You have the words that give eternal life.”
