She was angry, frustrated, and finally disappointed. 28-year-old Bhoomi Chauhan was delayed in traffic and arrived ten minutes too late to check in for her flight.
Turned away at the counter, she left the airport angry. Angry with traffic, angry with the airport staff and angry with herself for not leaving earlier for the airport.
Standing at a nearby tea stall, trying to figure out ways to get a refund and re-book her flight, she heard the news that Air India flight 171 had crashed shortly after takeoff.
When she was angry that she missed her flight, she blamed her driver. When she was thankful that she missed her flight, she thanked her mother goddess.
And I’m not criticizing her Hindu faith. I’ve heard Christians make the same statements. Year ago, I struggled with a similar news story, when the sole survivor of a plane crash attributed his survival to the fact that God was looking after him. And I wondered why God didn’t look after the other people on the plane.
There are things I don’t know, and questions I can’t answer. But I know that God is there. He’s there in the traffic jams. He is there is the safe landings and yes; He is even there in the tragic times.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, attempt the impossible.
