The other day a song came on the radio, and it began with these lyrics, “I rolled out this morning, the kids had the morning news show on, Bryant Gumbel was talking ’bout the fighting in Lebanon. Some senator was squawking ’bout the bad economy. It’s gonna get worse, you see, we need a change in policy.”
And while the headlines seem very familiar and contemporary, they are actually from the song “A Little Good News” that became a hit for Anne Murray in 1983. And while Bryant may no longer be reporting, it seems that very little has changed in the past forty-one years. People are still fighting in Lebanon and people are still squawking ’bout the bad economy.
The song goes on to lament, “I sure could use a little good news today.”
If you are looking for a little good news, you probably won’t find it on CNN or Fox News, but the Bible speaks over and over again about the Good News of Jesus. The good news of grace, of forgiveness and a life filled to overflowing.
And the good news about that Good News is that it is there for anyone who is willing to receive it, and that’s great news.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
