Did anyone catch the news that the next set federal election date has been moved by a week?  According to the Federal Election Act, the next election was supposed to be held on or before Oct. 20, 2025. However, it appears that the government has moved the date forward to October 27.

The reason given is that the extra week moves the election away from Diwali, a Hindu religious holiday.  This is understandable, but the extra week also means that an additional 80 MPs will be eligible for a pension that they wouldn’t have qualified for if they aren’t re-elected in the next election.
This decision could cost Canadian taxpayers an additional $120 million if all of those MPs lose their seats in the next election.

No wonder they decided to move the date ahead instead of back.

Canadian Taxpayers Federation director Franco Terrazzano said, “This looks like the government is pushing back the election so more MPs can take a very lucrative, taxpayer-funded pension,” he went on to state, “If politicians don’t want to look shady, then they should stop doing shady stuff like this.”

Christians and the church could take a lesson here as well. If we don’t want to look shady, we shouldn’t do shady stuff.
Have a great week, and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
