I was recently reminded of a story I read in a newspaper in April of 1985 (If you don’t know what a newspaper is, ask your parents). The story was about Galaxy Airlines Flight 203, which crashed in Reno Nevada on January 21, 1985.
Seventy of the seventy-one passengers and crew died in the crash, the only survivor was 17-year-old George Lamson Jr.
In the article Lamson made the statement, “I feel I was watched over for sure. I feel lucky to be alive.” And I remember thinking at the time, I wonder why the other seventy weren’t watched over?
Two weeks ago, after the attempted assassination of former President Trump, Mr. Trump publicly credited God with saving his life. I wonder if the family of Corey Comperatore; the man killed that afternoon felt a little slighted by God?
As a young preacher in 1985 I couldn’t come up with an answer as to why George Lamson was spared and the other seventy weren’t. Today as a much older preacher I can’t come up with an answer as to why Donald Trump was spared and Corey Comperatore lost his life.
But, somehow I doubt it’s because God cared more about Trump and Lamson than he cared for the others.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
