Have you noticed that they’re not wishing you a “Merry Christmas” in the stores as much these days?  Oh, you might get a “Season’s Greetings” or a “Happy Holiday,” but woe be upon the poor sales associate who should insensitively bestow upon you a salutation which includes the word “Christmas.”

The rationale is that they might inadvertently offend someone from another faith or someone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas.  Of course, those people aren’t offended so much that they refuse to participate in pre-Christmas and post-Christmas sales.  That wouldn’t be practical, would it?

However, the true meaning of Christmas gets the last laugh because as people push and shove through the crowds to get the very best bargains, the store’s public address systems play such words as “Joy to the World! The Lord has come; Let earth receive her King:” not to mention “Remember Christ, our Saviour, was born on Christmas day, to save us all from Satan’s power When we were gone astray.”

Maybe our prayer this Christmas needs to be that people will stop hearing only the familiar tunes and truly listen to the message of the Christmas Carols and that God will do a work in the hearts of shoppers all over Metro.

Have a great week, and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
