This morning I had a thought.  And you’re probably thinking that it was just beginners’ luck.

I realized that no matter how bad that past has been or how vile our ancestors may have acted, we are the result.  It’s not just society that is a result of history, but each of us personally.

If we could go back and change history, if we could go back and take out all the mistakes and intentional evil acts that have been committed, we might indeed end up with a better world, but not a world that we would actually be a part of.

Because everything in the past, the good, the bad and the ugly, has led us to this particular point in history, and any twist in history would ultimately twist the future.
Now, I am in no way trying to justify the past or excuse bad behaviour, but only to acknowledge that each of us was written into the story by events over which we had no control.

We can’t change history; we can only learn from it.  And perhaps because we’ve learned from history, there will be fewer things our great-grandchildren will feel the need to apologize for.
Have a great week, and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
