Seriously, there are some things you can’t make up.

A recent news article from the UK reports that the site for a new power cable linking the UK and Ireland had to be relocated because of public outcry that the proposed location would desecrate a grave.

The grave, however, isn’t a real grave, and it wasn’t for a real person. It was the grave of an elf, and not even a real elf. (And yes, I know that elves aren’t real.)

The route of the cable would have taken it across Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales. If you are a Harry Potter fan, then you know that is where Dobby the elf died in the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Following the movie, fans built and have maintained a grave for Dobby. As I said, there are some things you can’t make up.

Because of the outcry, the project manager Simon Ludlam stated they had rerouted the cable and, “we went quite close to some real Bronze Age remains, but we avoided Dobby’s grave”.

And while Dobby’s grave is an empty grave because there was no Dobby, Jesus’ grave is empty because there was a Jesus, and He conquered death.


That’s an empty grave worth celebrating.
