In a time of political chaos, in a culture that is increasingly indifferent, or at times hostile, to Christianity, how is the church to respond? That’s a good question, and nobody can seem to agree on what the church should take a stand for or against and how we should take that stand.

We think we are living in a unique political and cultural situation. However, the Bible reminds us that there is nothing new under the sun.

The early church faced many of the same challenges as we do today. However, instead of being called nasty names, the early Christians were often martyred. 

The political system and culture, in general, were corrupt and opposed to all the church stood for, and yet, never once did Jesus tell his followers how to vote or encourage them to overthrow the government and replace it with one friendlier to the church. 

Jesus called His followers to change people through the gospel, trusting that changed people would, in turn, change society.

Maybe, in 2026, the church would do well to heed Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 2:2 For I decided that while I was with you, I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.
