You probably didn’t notice that it needed doing or that it has now been done. The roadside sign at Gatehouse has gotten really grungy over the past couple of years, slowly collecting dust and dirt from passing traffic.
It was on my list of things we needed to get done on clean-up day, but I forgot.
However, things changed on Saturday. On Friday, I received a call from a friend with a peculiar request. He had an employee who needed some volunteer hours for his immigration status and asked if we had anything he could do at Cornerstone. I told him I could probably find something, but it wouldn’t be easy or pretty.
On Saturday, Jashanpreet showed up with a friend and a willingness to serve. They spent an hour picking up garbage around the property, and then tackled the sign, and it looks great.
I didn’t realize how dirty it was until I saw it clean again.
Isn’t that how often it is with our lives? It happens so gradually that we don’t notice the dust and dirt collecting, a neglected prayer there, a compromise we make, a habit we ignore.
And when that happens, we need a cleansing, not from Jashanpreet, but from the Holy Spirit.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
