Church guests can be a headache.
Last week, while reading a book entitled How to Wow Your Church Guests, I came across that statement. It jumped out at me and seemed so out of place that I had to read it again, and sure enough, that’s what the author, Mark Waltz, had written: Church guests can be a headache.
It seemed so wrong, and yet, after more than forty years in ministry, I know some people feel that way. And that’s sad.
The author points out that church guests show up expecting a parking spot, a place to sit, and a place for their kids. Which is all well and good until they want your parking space, your favourite place to sit, and suddenly there’s less room for your kids in children’s ministry.
As we make room for guests at Cornerstone, we need to ask ourselves: Are we prepared to give up what we already have for someone we don’t yet know?
Being a welcoming church isn’t measured simply by what we say. More importantly, it is measured by what we do—or don’t do.
So, each one of us has to ask: What are we doing to make room for new people?
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
