According to a recent Gallup poll, support for polygamy in the United States has tripled in the past twenty years. In 2003, 7% of Americans said that they had no problem with polygamy, a figure that now stands at 23%. Although I haven’t found comparable Canadian statistics, I would suspect they would be the same, if not higher.

Even though polygamy is illegal in the United States, having spouse-like relationships with more than one person living in the same household has been popularized in the media lately, and that seems to have affected public perception of the practice.

And we shouldn’t be surprised. When our courts and society decided that marriage shouldn’t be limited to one man and one woman, it was only a matter of time before the numbers would become as irrelevant as the genders.

I wonder how long it will be until what is now accepted by society with a nod and a wink will become another redefinition of marriage.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn’t make it a leg.”

And simply calling something a marriage, doesn’t make it a marriage.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
