The headline read, “He wouldn’t give me the cookie.” The story was about a Catholic Priest in Florida who has been charged with biting a woman who wanted to receive communion.  A charge that the priest does not deny.

If you were reading just the headline and the article summary, you would tend to side with the woman in the story.

But there are always two sides to every story, and often more.

Her side is that Father Fidel Rodriguez denied her communion because of the way she was dressed and her sexuality. On the other hand, Father Rodriguez said that he didn’t know the woman, and it was because she didn’t seem familiar with the process of communion that he offered her a blessing instead of the sacrament.

The woman returned to a later service, and it seems she tried to grab the plate with the communion wafers from the priest. She said she just wanted the cookie. The Priest maintained he was simply trying to defend the host from being desecrated.

Should she have grabbed the plate of wafers? Probably not. Should he have bitten her? Probably not.
In either case, it’s probably not what Jesus meant when he said, “Do this to remember me.”

Have a great week, and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
