I feel like the guy in Green Eggs and Ham. Not Sam-I-Am, the other guy.

For years I have told myself and others that I didn’t like Eggs Benedict because I didn’t like hollandaise sauce. Last month I tried some of Angela’s hollandaise sauce on the tip of my finger and discovered that I do like hollandaise sauce, and as a result, I found that I do like Eggs Benedict and breakfast poutine.

I’m not sure where or when I first tried an eggs benny and decided that I wasn’t a fan, but as a wise man once told me, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

In the long term, my life hasn’t really been diminished because I haven’t eaten hollandaise sauce all these years, but I wonder what else in life I’ve missed out on because of a negative first impression.

However, my recent discovery has reinforced the importance of first impressions when people arrive at Cornerstone. When a family comes for the first time to our church, what will their first impression be? Because it might not only impact their lives but their eternal lives.

And every one of us has a part to play in creating that first impression.

Have a great week, and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
