The other day while driving in the Super Store parking lot, a couple stepped out in front of me and then walked down the centre of my lane, right in front of me.  They’re just strolling along, completely oblivious to the car right behind them, appropriately socially distanced of course.
I’m thinking: don’t they even hear me?  And then it dawned on me: of course they don’t.  My hybrid was running in electric mode, or as I like to call it stealth mode.  Which I find really cool, but apparently can be somewhat dangerous for pedestrians.
Sometimes I wonder why people don’t realize where the church stands on social justice issues and racism, I think: don’t they even hear us?  And then it dawns on me, of course they don’t, if we do say anything, we say it very quietly.  All too often the church operates in stealth mode, so as not to offend anyone.
The Wesleyan Church was founded by people who weren’t afraid to offend people by speaking out against social injustice and racism.   When we are quiet on these issues, we are not only doing a disservice to the founders of our church; we are doing a disservice to God.
We need to remember. Silence might be golden, but sometimes it’s just plain yellow.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is possible, you’ll have to attempt the impossible.
