The other day, while out for a walk, I mentioned to Angela a child I had dedicated at Cornerstone several years ago. A child whom we haven’t seen in church for years.

It got me thinking of the many children who have been dedicated at Cornerstone through the years.

Most of those parents seriously wanted to dedicate their child or children to God.  Others just felt a need to have their child done, whatever that meant.

The thing they had in common was they stood in front of God and everyone and committed to raise their child in a Christian home, to set a Christian example for them (presumably that included attending church) and to encourage them in the ways of the Lord.

I have no reason to doubt that they were serious about their intentions. They were serious about doing what they had committed to do.

I wonder how many of those parents ever imagined that sports, part-time jobs, weekend activities, and sleeping in would gradually crowd out the commitments they once made before God and their church family.

And maybe I have to ask myself the same question. What commitments have I made before God that have slowly slipped to the margins of my life?

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
