I stumbled across an article about online returns the other day. Don’t ask, I sometimes wonder myself about what I read. The article mentioned that during the Christmas season, 17% of online purchases will be returned. Wow, that seems like a lot, and apparently, people don’t understand what the high rate of returns will eventually do to prices. After all, somebody has to pay for it.

What boggled my mind, though, was the practice of wardrobing. If you aren’t familiar with the term, it is the practice of buying something you intend to wear and then, after wearing it, returning it for a refund. One study revealed that one in five people have engaged in the practice in the past.

To be clear, wardrobing violates at least three of the Ten Commandments. First, when we want something that isn’t ours, we break commandment number ten. Then, when we engage in the practice, we are actually stealing from the retailer, commandment number eight. Finally, when we return it and lie about the reason for the return, we’ve broken commandment number nine.

And even if people don’t know the Ten Commandments, surely they know that what they are doing is wrong. Or maybe they just don’t care.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
