So, how did you spend the week between Christmas and New Year? Along with family time and a movie, we put Christmas away. Well, we didn’t actually put Christmas away. We just put our tree and all our decorations away. But you knew what I meant.

As we undecorated the apartment, I wondered how many people had packed Christ away for the rest of the year, along with their lights and garland. The first of December, they had taken him out of wherever it was they had Him stored, dusted Him off, and piously spoke of the true meaning of Christmas. But now it’s January, and for too many people, Jesus is simply another Christmas accessory, like the Santa that goes on their roof. And just as Santa is seen as having performed his annual duty and put away, the baby Jesus is hidden away in the basement until next year.

You see, the problem isn’t that people don’t keep Christ in Christmas. It’s that they do. Christ doesn’t just belong in Christmas. He belongs in New Year, Easter, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving and Halloween. So, this year, don’t keep Christ in Christmas. Get him into the rest of the year where he belongs.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
