But what about the duck?
That was the question I asked last week when someone posted the story about the hunting dog that was taken by a shark off the coast of Nova Scotia.

There were all kinds of discussions and comments about the dog, which was killed by the shark while retrieving a duck its owner had shot off Medway Harbour.

Public sympathy and condolences poured in for the dog and his owner. And there were all kinds of speculation about the shark, what type it was and what its motives might have been in attacking the dog. I suspect it was hungry.
But everyone forgot about the duck. Apparently, it was all right for the man to kill the duck but not for the shark to kill the dog.

People have obviously forgotten the thought expressed in that great song from the fifties that extolls us, “Be kind to your web-footed friends, for that duck may be somebody’s mother!”
While I was somewhat making light of the situation, it remains that our perspective often colours how we view the news.

Regardless of what we read or hear concerning domestic and international affairs, it might be wise to remember the duck when we interpret the news.

Have a great week, and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
