What a change, one day they were playing “Material Girl” and the next they were playing “Mary’s Boy Child”.   Within 24 hours, they had gone from playing songs by Madonna to playing songs about the Madonna.

Last week, 96.5 changed its format from easy listening to 24/7 Christmas music.  At first I wasn’t a fan, who really needs Alvin and Theodore singing about Christmas in November?  But then, I began to hear songs about the birth of Christ and what He came to offer.  On 96.5!  Who would have thought?

So now, between “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” and “I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” I pray for those who will hear “The First Noel” and “Angels we have Heard on High”.

For five weeks, tens of thousands of people, many who never attend church, will hear the story of Jesus repeatedly.  They will hear phrases like “Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.”  And “Remember Christ, our Saviour, was born on Christmas day, to save us all from Satan’s power when we were gone astray.”

And if nothing else, the plethora of Christmas Carols people hear on the radio and in the stores this season provides us with an open door to talk about the Christ of Christmas.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is possible, attempt the impossible.

  1. I really look forward to reading your remarks or thoughts. I get a lot of insight and many things to think about during the day. Once again thanks for all the time you take to send these out to people.

  2. My comment would be “I love Christmas music” but only the music that refers to what we are celebrating at this time of the year. I also love the older hymns that tell about the love of God for each one of us and how we love to worship HIM.
