Several years ago, I wrote in a Penn of Denn entitled, “The Easter Bunny is dead!” Perhaps you remember it.
The premise was that we were seeing subtle changes in the nomenclature of the giant rabbits. In some malls, the egg-laying hare was no longer being referred to as the Easter Bunny, but the Great Bunny.
But apparently, the Great Bunny didn’t have staying power. I checked online this week and couldn’t find a Great Bunny anywhere. However, Easter bunnies were hopping up all over the place. In malls, stores, and libraries.
Now, as far as I am concerned, they can call the silly rabbit anything they want to call him, but I really wish that the world would stop hijacking the Holy days of Christianity and trying to make them their own.
It’s not enough that we’ve allowed Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny to become a part of the celebration; now, it would seem, they would like Santa and the Bunny to become the celebration.
This week, we will celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, and that has nothing to do with giant rabbits or chocolate eggs and everything to do with our salvation and our eternal life.
Have a great week, and remember: to see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
Well said Denn
