If you haven’t heard, the trip that Greg Drost and I had planned to visit the Wesleyan Church in Bangladesh next week has been cancelled, or at least postponed.

Almost two weeks ago, our team had a video meeting with our host from Bangladesh, and he recommended that we delay our trip, for a couple of different reasons.

Late last year, a general election was called for February 12, the day after we were scheduled to leave the country. Elections in Bangladesh, have a long history of civil unrest and violence

The other reason our host shared was a rise in anti-American sentiment, and he reminded us that while we weren’t Americans, to the average person in Bangladesh we look American. Even with our prominent display of the maple leaf.

And while I was disappointed, I was reminded that as a Canadian, I have much to be thankful for.

I’m thankful that violence and civil unrest do not surround our elections. And I’m thankful that I’ve never heard the phrase, “anti-Canadian sentiment”.

Our trip was not cancelled, simply delayed. Pray that the situation will resolve itself, so we can eventually make out trip. And pray for the Wesleyan Church of Bangladesh, as they continue to provide light in the darkness.

Have a great week and remember: to see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
