I saw a meme a few weeks ago that said, “Someone asked me if I had plans for the fall. It took me a moment to realize they meant autumn and not the collapse of civilization.”

It made me laugh at first, but then I thought, some days, it really does feel like we’re watching civilization teeter on the edge.

Unfolding around us, we have a front-row view of a war in Ukraine and Gaza, civil unrest, and political chaos.

I’ve had people ask me if I think we might be witnessing, not the end of civilization, but the end of the world.  And my answer is, “I don’t know.”  Which isn’t all that profound, but it’s the truth.

In 1950 Ira Stanphill wrote a song that Allison Krause turned into a hit in 1994, the year Cornerstone was birthed.  And in these days of chaos and confusion, I lean into the chorus of that song that says,
“Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand

But I know who holds tomorrow,
and I know who holds my hand.”

And so, I made plans for the fall because my surety is that whatever may happen, I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is possible, you’ll have to attempt the impossible.
