I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before he was murdered. In the week since I’ve heard him called a martyr by some and a monster by others.
After watching way too many videos of Kirk, debating on university campuses I realize that I agreed with him on some things, but not everything. And that’s not surprising, I have never met anyone that I agreed with completely. And if I did, I’m not sure I’d like them.
This isn’t about who Charlie Kirk was, or what he believed. This is about the fact that as a society we’ve come to the place that our only response to those we disagree with, is violence. Whether it be verbal violence, shouting down the person we disagree with or physical violence, shooting down the person we disagree with. Not only are we moving away from being a civil society, but we are also moving away from being civilized.
We have to stop making villains out of people we disagree with. Here’s shocking news, people are entitled to their opinions, even if they are in conflict with ours.
And if you have to consider them your enemy, remember that as Christ followers, we are commanded to love our enemies.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
