It’s 2025, and apparently, it’s all about “me.” Perusing today’s headlines, I was amazed—I know I shouldn’t be—at how many people demand that others think and act like them.
Some were outraged at the performers who chose to perform at the US inauguration this week, and there were calls to boycott their music.
When it was discovered that President Trump’s daughter Ivanka wore an Oscar de la Renta dress to the event, people said they would boycott the brand, I don’t think Oscar has anything to worry about.
In England, fans of the Television show, Silent Witness, are demanding the creators change the plot line to please them. Really? It’s a TV show.
Over eighty years ago, my Great-Grandfather wrote a small book speculating that if we all just followed the Golden Rule, the world would be a much better place. Sounds legit. If you’re not familiar with the Golden Rule, it comes from Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.”
It seems, however, that the goal in 2025 isn’t to do for others but to demand that everybody do for you. And I don’t think that’s what my Grampy Peter or Jesus had in mind.
Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
