And I’m back! Did you miss me? Did you even know I was gone? The Penn of Denn was a COVID-related casualty during the time that handing someone a bulletin on Sunday Morning was frowned upon. But now I’m back.

The last Penn was written the week after the debacle of last year’s US election. Fittingly, this one is being written not long after our federal election. I don’t know how you felt about the US election and really don’t care, and I care only slightly more about how you felt about our recent foray into democracy.

What I do know is that there are people all over the world who can only wish for the opportunity to have a say in their government.

I realize that many people would agree with the wag who said “Voting doesn’t make a difference, or they wouldn’t let us do it.” But it does make a difference and as Mark Twain wrote, “In America (and Canada) we have a privilege other countries don’t have. When a thing gets unbearable people can get rid of it at the ballot box”

So, this Thanksgiving, why not take time to give thanks for the right that you exercised in September, regardless of whether you won or lost.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
