I had a coffee with my cousin the other day and we caught up on each other’s lives and chatted about family.  It was an enjoyable afternoon.  We discovered that we had a number of things in common and not just our white beards.  We both drive the same model car, love history and we have both taught in Africa.  And those were new discoveries for us because we had just met.

I had connected with Wayne on a genealogical site when we discovered that my Great-Great-Grandmother was his Great Grandmother’s Aunt.  Now that might not mean much to you, but where I come from that makes us kin.

It was fun to discover what we have in common, but even if we didn’t share a love for history, Toyotas and teaching in Africa, we’d still be relate because we share DNA.

Sometimes we think that what makes us  brothers and sister in Christ are the interests and preferences that we share.  And while those things may be cool, they aren’t what makes us kin.  What makes us kin is our relationship with God.  If God is our Father then His other children are our siblings, even if we don’t enjoy the same style of music or read the same translation of the Bible.

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
